New Year, New Inspirations

Interior ideas for 2019.

A new year is upon us. It is a time for reflection, rejuvenation and renovation. Curved furnishings and softer lines are a focus, wrapped in subtle warm hues with eclectic patterns for a punch of pizzazz.  Interiors for this year will be about moderation and context.  No matter your design style preference, connecting with nature and comfort will be emphasized.  Make it a priority this year to have organized spaces, free of clutter and negativity. Love and enjoy each and every room in your home.

Pink and proper

Pantone’s colour of 2019 is Living Coral, an essence of warmth and comfort for our homes.  Another pick to ponder is Millennial Pink. This cute pink would be an attractive contribution to your space. In addition to painting the walls of a room, there are many ways to incorporate these attractive hues. Bedding, vases, or small accent pieces such as pillows, an area rug, chair or ottoman would be ideal.  For contrast, pair these pinks with grey, cream, and mint hues.

 Show your creativity

Make your home unique with imagination. Sustainable/hand-made pieces are still going strong. Consider rattan winnowing baskets, traditional Vietnamese leaf conical hats, rice paper ornaments, clay sculptural pieces, or layering patterned prints to create remarkable focal points within your space. Adding some branches, twigs, flowers, and greenery is a nice touch. Go bold with your choice of artwork, wall colour or backsplash.

Warm and cozy

In one form or another the need for a calm, cozy retreat will be dominating our decisions and impacting our style selections. Out with the cool stark greys we have been seeing in the past, and in with warm beige tones. The dominance of dark wood switches to beachy birches, ashy oaks, and white-washed finishes. The comfort of natural fabrics and finishes will continue to be embraced.

Coloured cabinetry

Moving away from the traditional wood-grained cabinet and going with solid-colour has become the new standard, especially in a matte finish.  Creating a mood with cabinetry will be an element of our space for this year. Choose a non-traditional finish and style for your hardware.  Opt for an antique-bronze or pewter in lieu of the more common bushed nickel. For additional interest and customization add some open shelving. Choose a contrasting colour for some of the cabinets.

Art Deco

This revered time period will be forever cherished and a big influence in our interiors this year. A fantastic era, it injects an essence of glamour and glitz to our homes. Get excited about gold patinas, black gold, and bright gold. We will see this style present in an array of interior elements from light fixtures to furniture. A great way to implement this trend is with the addition of a bar cart.  This versatile accessory is a must-have this year.
