Korean Marinated Eggs


  • 4 eggs
  • ½ onion
  • 50g scallions
  • 4 shallots
  • 1 small piece of ginger
  • 4 garlic cloves
  • 1 cowhorn pepper
  • 1tbsp sesame seeds
  • 50g sugar
  • Salt
  • 1 tbsp of vinegar
  • 100ml soy sauce
  • 100ml water


Boil eggs:
Boil a pot of water. Add salt and vinegar and wait until the water starts simmering then put the eggs in. If you like to eat soft boiled eggs, cook them for 5 minutes. Take the eggs out of the pot and soak them in cold water for 5 minutes before peeling the eggshell.

Prepare other ingredients:
Dice onion, cut scallions into pieces, mince garlic, shallots, ginger, and cowhorn pepper.

Make the soy sauce:
Choose a food container that allows the eggs to be submerged in the soy sauce mixture.
Mix soy sauce with sugar and warm water. Stir evenly until the sugar is dissolved. Adjust the seasonings to your family’s taste. Add the prepared garlic, scallion, cowhorn pepper, onion, shallots, and ginger to the container and stir in sesame seeds. Pour the sauce mixture over the eggs. Let sit for 6 hours in refrigerator.

Take eggs out of container and enjoy with cooked rice or Korean instant noodles.
