This company is so huge globally that it is easy to forget that it started in Toronto. It was founded in 1984 by photographer and makeup artist Frank Toskan and Frank Angelo. The company’s headquarters are now in New York City and it became part of the Estée Lauder Companies in 1998. MAC is an acronym for Make-up Art Cosmetics. At the beginning it was products by makeup artists for makeup artists, and initially sold exclusively at Hudson’s Bay stores in Canada. They were known for creating rich colours, for every skin tone, and the first one focusing on darker skin tones.
