“Go Home, Stay Home” Prime Minister Trudeau tells Canadians as government warns of COVID-19 enforcement measures

Earlier this week on Monday March 23, 2020 Prime Minister Justin Trudeau has gone from asking to pleading with Canadians to follow public health guidelines regarding the COVID-19 pandemic. He warns that stiff enforcement measures may be imposed if people continue to engage in behaviour that puts lives at risk, or simply put not following health guidelines such as social distancing.

“If you choose to ignore the advice, you’re not just putting yourself at risk, you’re putting others at risk”

Prime Minister of Canada, Justin Trudeau

“Enough is enough. Go home and stay home. This is what we all need to be doing, and we’re going to make sure this happens, whether by educating people more on the risks, or by enforcing the rules, if that’s needed. Nothing that could help is off the table.” said the Prime Minister during his address today.

Trudeau also announced on Monday morning that federal government will be spending $192 million on the development and production of vaccines and treatment for COVID-19. The funding will be available to Canadian research and life-sciences companies as well as various education bodies such as Canadian Universities and Colleges across the country.

“We’re investing in a long-term solution to COVID-19” Trudeau said as he noted that a potential vaccine for the coronavirus may take months to develop and test. However, the Prime Minister also said in his address that should promising options be available Canada will require the capacity to mass produce treatment as quickly as possible.
