Editor’s Letter – Dec 2020

Economic activities are still subject to restrictions to ensure safety, and some occupations are on hold due to lockdowns, but there is the hope of returning to a new normal soon. As noted in an OECD report in this issue’s Need to Know, the world economy will begin to recover next year. In a historic moment, the first Covid-19 vaccines have been deployed in several parts of the world, including Canada. That is a positive move in the fight against the pandemic.

Let’s lighten our minds for a moment and go through the pages of Culture Magazin to enjoy the amazing things around us. Our cover story outlines the experience of Miss Tieu Vy when she became Miss Vietnam at the age of 18. You will also be inspired by the story of American photographer Alden Anderson who has a special love for Vietnam’s ethnic minorities.

The travel section takes you to places with the fascinating natural beauty of mountains such as Dak Lak in Vietnam, and the Tohuku region of Japan.

In the Fashion & Beauty section, the editor’s picks give you some fresh ideas for looking good and keeping warm in the new year.

We have passed through 2020, a year of gloom and doom. Let’s be confident that 2021 will arrive with beauty, such as we hear in the lyrics of “Follow the Sun” by Xavier Rudd, an Australian singer and songwriter: “Tomorrow’s a new day for everyone. A brand new moon and brand new sun.”

We wish you, dear readers of Culture Magazin, a new year with many blessings to be shared with your family and loved ones.
